Passionate About Inspiring Others

"Nothing brings me more satisfaction than seeing a student's light bulb moment."

I am a passionate educator with ten years of experience teaching all levels of middle school and high school math. I spent three years teaching in a small high school in Richmond, Virginia. For the last seven years, I have been a private tutor in subjects ranging from pre-algebra through calculus and statistics. My experience with teaching a broad range of subjects and ages enables me to meet students' particular needs, whatever those happen to be. I can help students strengthen their fundamental skills while also building towards more complex ideas.

I love to teach, especially in a one-on-one setting that allows for patient questioning and exploration of ideas. My passion for math comes through in my tutoring, making the subject more interesting and more accessible. My goal with every student is to help them attain a meaningful and lasting understanding of the concepts rather than just a surface level ability to solve problems. By teaching a clear understanding of the relevant concepts, I help my students become more flexible and independent thinkers.

At the beginning of my junior year, I struggled with Honors Chemistry. I started to meet with Mr. Herbst and this rapidly changed. He made this subject seem almost easy and I even started to enjoy it. He does a great job of explaining concepts by using examples that make more sense than what is actually on the paper. I finished my junior year with all A's, even in chemistry! I could not have done it without his help! He makes tutoring enjoyable which is why my sister has also worked with him and I have continued to work with him as an AP Statistics student this year.
